Container Traffic via Caspian Basin Ports in March 2021 Down 55%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in March 2021 declined by 54.9% year-on-year. Export decreased by 69.9%, import by 39.5%, and cabotage was down 36%.

    The share of the Caspian basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in March 2021 amounted to 0.05%.

    Laden container throughput in the Caspian was down 52.4%. Reefer containers accounted for 1.3% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 98.7%. Imports made 85.4% of all the laden containers, exports accounted for 9.6%, and cabotage for 5.1% of the total.

    Empty container traffic dropped by 58.4%.

    The port of Astrakhan accounted for 90.4% of the aggregate container throughput via the Caspian basin ports in March. Olya handled 9.6% of the total.
