Almost 5 Mn Tons of Cargo Transits Northern Sea Route in January-February

  • 4.8 mn tons of cargo was transported along the Northern Sea Route during January-February 2021, according to the RF Federal Agency for Maritime and Inland Shipping. 67% of the traffic was LNG and condensed gas.

    Vessels in the Northern Sea Route basin were escorted by the nuclear-powered icebreakers “Yamal”, “Vaigach”, “Taimyr”, “50 Let Pobedy”, and “Arktika” and the diesel-electric icebreakers “Krasin” and “Admiral Makarov”.

    In the port of Sabetta, vessels were assisted by the icebreakers “Ob”, “Thor”, and “Sankt-Peterburg”, in the port of Dudinka the icebreakers “Dudinka” and “Avraamiy Zvenyagin” were deployed.

    The icebreakers “Alexandr Sannikov” and “Andrey Vilkitsky” escorted tankers to and from the Arctic Gate terminal in Novy Port.

    During the first two months of 2021, 39 permits for vessels for pass the Northern Sea Route were issued, including 17 permits for foreign-flagged vessels.
