Russian Transport Sector Cargo Down 5% in January

  • During January 2021, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was down 4.9% year-on-year and down 16.3% month-on-month to 539.7 mn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest volume was carried by road, down 8.2% year-on-year and down 22.5% month-on-month to 332 mn tons.

    Rail cargo grew slightly by 0.9% year-on-year and declined by 5.5% month-on-month to make 101.2 mn tons.

    Pipeline traffic was up 1.8% year-on-year and down 1.2% month-on-month to 102.9 mn tons.

    Sea freight dropped by 22.6% year-on-year and by 35.5% month-on-month down to 1.47 mn tons.

    Inland shipping volume decreased by 14.6% year-on-year and by 19.1% month-on-month down to 2.04 mn tons.

    Air transport carried 0.099 mn tons, up 23.8% year-on-year and down 20.8% month-on-month.
