Container Traffic via Far East Basin Ports in December Up 11%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Far East basin ports in December 2020 increased by 11% year-on-year. Export grew by 2.7%, cabotage by 4.6%, and import by 35.9%. Transit, on the contrary, declined by 23.6%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in December 2020 amounted to 36.1%.

    Laden container throughput in the Far East increased by 19.1% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 6.2% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 93.8%. Imports made 48.7% of all the laden containers, cabotage 25.2%, exports 19.7% and transit 6.4%.

    Empty container traffic was down 4.9%.

    The port of Vladivostok accounted for 61.4% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in December. Vostochny handled 22.2%, and Korsakov 6.2% of the total.
