Far East Basin Ports’ Throughput in November 2020 Up 11.2%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin ports in November 2020 increased by 11.2% year-on-year. Import was up 9.3%, and export up 12.8%. Transit surged by 86.5%. Cabotage, on the contrary, declined by 6.6%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in November 2020 amounted to 26.5%.

    More than 75% in the Russian Far Eastern ports’ commodity structure is coal, oil and products. In November, coal and coke accounted for 48% of the total volume, crude oil for 22.9% and oil products for 5.9%. Containerized cargo constituted 7.9% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth rate was in the grain segment (up 3.5-fold), other bulk (suction) (up 2.3-fold) and non-ferrous metals (up 2.1-fold).

    The commodities that decreased the most were piece cargo (-39.2%), reefer cargo (-18.9%) and oil products (-18.2%).

    Vostochny accounted for 33.7% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in November. Vanino handled 14.3%, and Nakhodka 12.5% of the total.
