Russia to Build Transarctic Fiber Optic Line from Murmansk to Vladivostok

  • The RF Ministry of transport, the Federal Agency of maritime and river transport, and Rosmorport have embarked on a project to lay an underwater transarctic fiber optic communications mainline between Murmansk and Vladivostok with local lines to the major ports and towns along the route in the Russian Arctic zone.

    The project is aimed at developing port infrastructure along the Northern Sea Route and building a digital ecosystem of the region. It will also help develop digital infrastructure to support oil and gas projects in the Arctic, oil and gas fields exploration, protecting environment, implementing lean technologies, developing digital data handling centers, establishing and expanding high-tech production facilities.

    The underwater transarctic fiber optic communications mainline will be operated by Morsvyazsputnik, reporting to the Federal Agency of maritime and river transport.
