Northern Sea Route on Digitalization Track

  • Rosatom State Corporation has started a pilot digital service for planning navigation route in the Northern Sea Route basin taking into account the ice conditions and weather data, the corporation has informed.

    The new digital solution will be based on machine learning technologies and are expected to help optimize vessel escort time, fuel consumption, and, eventually, increase cargo transportation along the route.

    Recently, Rosatom put into operation another digital service for the Northern Sea Route allowing to track vessels and receive data on weather and ice conditions as well as on events and incidents in the basin.

    According to Rosatom, Atomflot, the operator of Russia’s nuclear icebreaker fleet, is already using the system daily.
