Container Traffic via Arctic Basin Ports in September 2020 Down 0.7%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Arctic basin ports in September 2020 decreased by 0.7% year-on-year. 

    Cabotage, which accounts for the major share of the total, declined by 0.05%. Export dropped by 74.6%. Import surged 4.6-fold.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in September 2020 amounted to 3.1%.

    Laden container throughput in the Arctic decreased by 12.3% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 3.4% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 96.6%. Cabotage made 93.9% of all the laden containers, imports 4.5%, exports 1.6%.

    Empty container traffic grew by 22%.

    The port of Dudinka accounted for 39.6% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in September. Arkhangelsk handled 25.6% of the total, and Murmansk 17.4%.
