Food Products Import in January-August 2020: Citrus Fruit Import Up in August

  • According to the RF Federal Customs Service’s statistics, in January-August 2020 fresh and frozen meat import was down 32.9% to 174.9 thousand tons.

    Fresh and frozen poultry import increased by 2.7% up to 151.1 thousand tons. Fish import declined by 9.9% down to 220.3 thousand tons.

    Canned meat and meat specialties import grew by 23.6% making 13.6 thousand tons.

    Milk and condensed cream import was down 14.6% to 101 thousand tons. Butter import increased by 14.4% amounting to 89 thousand tons. Cheese import grew by 11.9% up to 195 thousand tons.

    Palm oil import was down 0.3% to 667.2 thousand tons.

    Citrus fruit import was down 6.7% to over 889.6 thousand tons. Banana import increased by 0.9% up to more than 1 mn tons, and apple import by 6.4% up to 740.5 thousand tons.

    Raw sugar import declined by 14% down to 3.7 thousand tons, white sugar import dropped by 33.6% down to 121.1 thousand tons.

    Coffee import in January-August grew by 4% up to 152.5 thousand tons, and tea import by 2.8% up to 101.4 thousand tons.

    In August, the following categories demonstrated a year-on-year decline in import volumes: palm oil (down 23.1% to 97.4 thousand tons), fish (down 0.4% to 23.7 thousand tons), fresh and frozen meat (down 20.8% to 22.8 thousand tons), white sugar (down 75.4% to 6.1 thousand tons), raw sugar (down 16.7% to 0.5 thousand tons), vegetable oil (down 50% to 0.1 thousand tons). Other food products import was up.

    Compared to July 2020, the import of palm oil, citrus fruit, cheese, fish, fresh and frozen meat and canned meat and meat specialties increased, the rest of the food product categories under report were down.

    In August, coffee import decreased by 3.7% year-on-year and grew by 6.7% month-on-month to make 20.7 thousand tons. Tea import was up 11.1% year-on-year and up 6.6% month-on-month to 13 thousand tons.
