Freight Rates from Ust-Luga, Week 42, 2020

  • On week 42, with the likelihood of a second wave of the pandemic, the Baltic Dry index went down. This also contributed to a slight decline in the time-charter equivalent for Handy / Supra / Ultra vessels in the Baltic and Black Sea regions, Sea Line ship brokers report.

There is also an upward trend in demand for Handymax vessels on the Continent and the Baltic. However, not all vessels of this class are ready to sail long distances. Most shipowners want to either stay in the Atlantic or go to the Mediterranean / Black Sea.

According to the latest indicators, a large flow of wheat shipments in large quantities has recently been going to the Persian Gulf and to the countries of North Africa.

Freight rates for 30,000-35,000 dwt bulkers from Ust-Luga to most destinations declined, the exception being the Persian Gulf.

Last week, rates on the Ust-Luga – Continent – Ust-Luga routes were $17 pmt, rates from Ust-Luga to ARAG made $20 pmt.

Rates for 30,000-35,000 dwt bulkers from Ust-Luga to the Black Sea amounted to $29 pmt, rates to the Persian Gulf were $25 pmt.

In the small tonnage bulker segment in the Baltic rates moved sideways.

Rates from Ust-Luga to Klaipeda were €13.5 pmt, and those to Riga and Stockholm were €15.5 pmt.

Freight rates from Ust-Luga to Hamburg made €23 pmt, and to Bremerhaven €25 pmt.
