Container Traffic via Russian Ports Down 1.3% in September 2020

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in September 2020 decreased by 1.3% year-on-year.

    Export container traffic declined by 0.8%, cabotage by 5.5%, and transit dropped by 55.8%. Import, on the contrary, grew by 3.8%.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was down 1.9%. Reefer containers accounted for 9.2% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 90.8%. Imports made 51.48% of all the laden containers, exports 36.49%, cabotage 10.36%, and transit 1.67%.

    Empty container traffic increased by 1.2%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 45.5% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in September. The Far East basin handled 38.8%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 12.5%, the Arctic basin for 3.1% and the Caspian basin for 0.1% of the total.
