Russian Ports’ Throughput in July 2020 Down 13.5%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput of the Russian sea ports in July 2020 decreased by 13.5% year-on-year.

    Transit was down 23.8%, cabotage down 13.2%. Export declined by 13.1%, and import by 0.4%.

    More than 50% in the Russian sea ports’ commodity structure was oil and products. In July, crude oil accounted for 25.5% of the total volume and oil products for 15.1%. Coal and coke constituted 26.9% of the total.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the ore segment (+42.4%), piece cargo (+30.9%) and chemical and mineral fertilizers (+17.6%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were sugar (-70.7%), liquid chemicals (-34.3%) and crude oil (-32.2%).

    The Far Eastern basin accounted for 31.2% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian sea ports in July. The Azov and Black Sea basin handled 29.4%, the Baltic basin accounted for 26.3%, the Arctic basin for 11.9% and the Caspian basin for 1.2% of the total.
