Container Traffic via Russian Ports Down 6% in July 2020

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in July 2020 decreased by 6.1% year-on-year.

    Import container traffic declined by 8.4%, export by 8.8%, and transit by 48%. Cabotage, on the contrary, grew by 11.7%.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was down 3.2%. Reefer containers accounted for 8.9% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 91.1%. Imports made 49.5% of all the laden containers, exports 35.4%, cabotage 13.8%, and transit 1.2%.

    Empty container traffic decreased by 15.1%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 44.7% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in July. The Far East basin handled 40.7%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 11.4%, the Arctic basin for 3.2% and the Caspian basin for 0.0003% of the total.
