Russia’ Vegetable Oil Import Down in Q1 2020

    According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, in Q1 2020 Russia imported 314.8 thousand tons of vegetable oil (-9.6% year-on-year) worth $276.3 mn (+3.9%).

    More than half of the entire amount was palm oil, which made 231.1 thousand tons (-8.1%) worth $178.7 mn (+14.2%). The major exporting country supplying palm oil to Russia was Indonesia.

    Imports of coconut oil rose by 26.8% up to 24.6 thousand tons worth $24.4 mn, up 20.2% year-on-year. Most of the imported coconut oil came from Indonesia and Malaysia.

    Import of rapeseed oil dropped by 43.3% down to 20.7 thousand tons worth $17.1 mn, down 37.6% to. Almost the entire amount was shipped from Belarus.

    Soybean oil import made 14.8 thousand tons (-14.9%) worth 11 mn (+5.8%). Virtually all the amount came from Belarus.

    Olive oil import increased by 12.2% up to 5.5 thousand tons worth $15.7 thousand, down 1.9%. The major exporting countries were Spain, Italy and Greece.

    In January-March 2020, Russia imported vegetable oil from 58 countries, the major exporters being Indonesia and Belarus.

    Indonesia shipped to Russia 243.2 thousand tons of vegetable oil, up 1% year-on-year. In monetary terms, import from Indonesia increased by 25.5% to make $190.2 mn. Palm oil accounted for more than three quarters of the entire amount. Also, significant amounts of coconut oil were shipped from Indonesia to Russia.

    Import from Belarus decreased by 35.2% down to 35.2 thousand tons worth $27.8 mn, down 27%. Almost all of that was rapeseed and soybean oils.
