Grain Export from Russia

    According to SeaNews Russian Foreign Trade Customs Statistics online service, in Q1 2020 Russia exported 9.5 mn tons (+12.9%) of grain worth $1.9 bn (+2.3%).

    Most of the shipments were wheat and meslin. In January-March 2020, 7.3 mn tons of wheat and meslin was exported, 11.1% more than a year earlier. In monetary terms, shipments increased by 2.1% to $1.5 bn. The main importing countries were Turkey and Egypt.

    Corn export increased by 40% up to 1.2 mn tons terms of tonnage and by 18% up to $209.3 mn in terms of value. The largest share was shipped to Turkey, Vietnam and South Korea.

    Barley export amounted to 960.1 thousand tons (+14.1%) worth $ 180.4 mn (+0.2%). Large volumes were shipped to Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

    During the first quarter of 2020, Russian produced grains were exported to 92 countries, the major importers being Turkey and Egypt.

    Exports to Turkey increased by 44.9% to 2.4 mn tons in terms of tonnage and by 38.5% up to $506.4 mn in terms of value. Wheat and meslin accounted for more than two thirds of the entire export volumes. Significant amounts of barley and corn were shipped to Turkey.

    Grain shipments to Egypt made 1.9 mn tons (+34.7%) worth $413.6 mn (+28.4%). All of this was wheat and meslin.
