Yamal Nuclear Icebreaker Service Period Extended

  • Rosatomflot, the operator of Russia’s nuclear icebreaker fleet, has extended the recourse of the nuclear unit of its ‘Yamal’ icebreaker from 150,000 hours to 200,000 hours, thus increasing the vessel’s service period by 6 years till 2028.

    This is the second time the service period of “Yamal” has been extended. Previously, its resource was extended up to 150,000 hours. As of July 1, 2020, the 1992-buil nuclear icebreaker was in service for 149,500 hours.
