During January-May 2020, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system was down 1.8% year-on-year to 2.96 bn tons.
According to the RF Statistics Agency, road transportation remained much on the previous year’s level and amounted to some 1.96 bn tons.
Rail cargo declined by 4.5% year-on-year down to 508.4 mn tons.
Pipeline traffic was down 6.7% year-on-year to 458.7 mn tons.
Sea freight increased by 17.6% year-on-year up to 9.2 mn tons.
Inland shipping volume grew by 14.4% year-on-year up to 23.2 mn tons.
Air transport carried 0.4 mn tons, down 0.4% year-on-year.
In May, railway and pipeline transportation volumes declined month-on-month, inland shipping volumes surged 2.8-fold.
