Container Traffic via Russian Ports Down 2.1% in May 2020

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput of all the Russian sea ports in May 2020 decreased by 2.1% year-on-year.

    Import container traffic declined by 6.2%, export by 1.6%, and transit by 23.9%. Cabotage, on the contrary, grew by 12.3%.

    Laden container throughput via the Russian sea ports was down 1.9%. Reefer containers accounted for 12.6% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 87.4%. Imports made 48.5% of all the laden containers, exports 38.3%, cabotage 11.4%, and transit 1.8%.

    Empty container traffic declined by 2.9%.

    The Baltic basin accounted for 47.8% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian sea ports in May. The Far East basin handled 35.6%, the Azov and Black Sea basin accounted for 15%, the Arctic basin for 1.5% and the Caspian basin for 0.1% of the total.
