Container Traffic via Arctic Basin Ports in April 2020 Down 11%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Arctic basin ports in April 2020 decreased by 11% year-on-year. Cabotage, which accounts for the major share of the total, declined by 11.1%. Export was down 15.4%. Import grew by 7.3%.

    The share of the Arctic basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in April 2020 amounted to 3.4%.

    Laden container throughput in the Arctic decreased by 2.6% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 5% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 95%. Cabotage made 99.3% of all the laden containers, imports 0.5%, exports 0.2%.

    Empty container traffic declined by 26.2%.

    The port of Dudinka accounted for 42% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Arctic basin sea ports in April. Murmansk handled 39.3% of the total, and Arkhangelsk 18.7%.
