Rail Cargo Logistics – RUS to Carry Meat and Poultry to China

  • The Russian-Chinese agroindustry group RusGrain, in cooperation with the Chinese Chongqing Splendid North Industrial Co. and the logistics operator Rail Cargo Logistics – RUS, have agreed to implement a transport and logistics project to organize regular shipments of frozen chicken and meat products in refrigerated containers from Selyatino in Moscow Oblast to Chongqing (Chongqing Free Economic Zone) in China. The parties agreed on the terms of cooperation in the framework of a videoconference on May 12 this year, following the previously signed cooperation agreement.

The project is scheduled to start in the first half of June 2020. At the first stage, it is planned to deliver 4 refrigerated containers provided by the Chinese party to the Selyatino rail station for loading with Russian products and further shipment to Chengdu. In order to optimize costs, the containers will be stuffed with Chinese products as the back load from Chongqing to Selyatino.

After the pilot shipment of Russian products to Chengdu and all logistics and customs procedures in the Chengdu FEZ are completed, it is planned to gradually expand the container park deployed by the Chinese party up to 24 reefer containers by the end of 2020.

The second stage envisages launching a block train service including both reefer and dry containers for a combined cargo base. The project geography is to be expanded with containerized cargo from Central China (Chengdu and Chongqing) to be delivered to Belarus, East and West Europe, with warehousing and logistics assets of Rail Cargo Group in the territory of European countries to be used for handling, storing, consolidating and distributing cargoes arriving from Central China.

The project is aimed for providing transport and logistics services to Russian producers of chicken and meat products, whose businesses are listed in the relevant register of the Main Customs Administration of China.
