GEFCO Russia, in cooperation with an unnamed grain, beans and oilseeds producer has reported developing a unique solution for transporting grain products (chickpeas) in sea containers.
The customer used to export packaged products delivering them to ports in roofed wagons, while unpackaged products were transported by road. At the port, grain was loaded into 20’ containers. GEFCO has offered a new logistics solution involving loading 20’ containers at its own rails.
As part of the partnership, GEFCO will test shipping four TEU to Egypt by sea, providing forwarding services and paying the railway tariff. In future, up to 40 containers will be loaded per month and the number of destination countries will be expanded to seven.
The new project will enable the customer to simplify its business processes with key contractors, GEFCO Russia said. In addition, it is planned to improve cargo safety without re-packaging exporting up to 25 tons in a container.
Another important strategic advantage for the client will be the single window for cooperation with Russian Railways, the Volga Territorial Centre of Corporate Transport Services, Federal Freight Company, the port and the shipping line.
Federal Freight Company will provides fitting platforms for transportation of containers by railway. The sea shoulder will be served by Sea Land, a Maersk company.
