The Kaliningrad Railway has loaded a semi-trailer laden with polymer products onto a piggyback platform and dispatched to Moscow by rail.
This is the first test contrailer shipment, the platform was included into a block train. The back load in the semi-trailer from Moscow to Kaliningrad will be construction cargoes for Kaliningrad companies.
The transit time from Kaliningrad to Moscow will be less than two days, twice as fast as road haulage, the tariff being roughly on par. However, there will be a significant reduction in logistics costs due to faster passage of the international checkpoints by rail.
In order to organize a regular contrailer service between Kaliningrad and Moscow route, the operator plans to purchase 50 contrailer platforms certified for operation on Russian railways by the end of this year.
