Container Traffic via Far East Basin Ports in March Up 8%

  • According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Far East basin ports in March 2020 increased by 8% year-on-year. Transit surged by 76.1%, cabotage was up 12.2%, import up 1.7%, and export up 1.2%.

    The share of the Far East basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in March 2020 amounted to 30.4%.

    Laden container throughput in the Far East grew by 12.6% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 8.4% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 91.6%. Imports made 38.3% of all the laden containers, cabotage 27.7%, exports 26.6%, and transit 7.4%.

    Empty container traffic was down 2.3%.

    The port of Vladivostok accounted for 58.6% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in March. Vostochny handled 23.6%, and Korsakov 7.6% of the total.
