  • According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total cargo throughput via the Azov and Black Sea basin ports in January 2020 declined by 3.6% year-on-year. Export was down 5.1% and transit down 1.4%. Import increased by 8.5%. Cabotage remained much on the previous year’s level (+0.3%).

    The share of the Azov and Black Sea basin in the total cargo traffic via all the Russian seaports in January 2020 amounted to 30%.

    More than half of the total is oil and products, with crude oil accounting for 37.1% of the overall throughput, and oil products for 24.8%. Coal and coke have the third largest share in the aggregate throughput amounting to 12.1%.

    It should be noted that the highest growth was in the ore segment (up 2.2-fold), chemical and mineral fertilizers (+69.8%) and other bulk (suction) (+42.6%).

    The commodities that decreased the most were sugar (-93.2%), timber and logs (-54.9%) and Ro-Ro (-44%).

    Novorossiysk accounted for 62.8% of the aggregate cargo throughput via the Russian Azov and Black basin sea ports in January. Tuapse handled 9.7%, and Taman 8.1% of the total.
