Tradelens Pilot Starts in Russia

  • The first stage of a pilot to implement Tradelens in Russia started on March 1, the RF Federal Customs Service informed. Maersk and the Federal Customs Service cooperate on the project exchanging preliminary information from cargo manifests.

According to Maersk, only the line’s containers are involved in the pilot project. The line inputs data on commodity codes of cargo shipped via Russian ports provided by shippers for the purpose of preliminary information.

The pilot will last for two months, after which the customs has to decide whether the new technology facilitates processing preliminary information.

According to Ruslan Davydov, Deputy Head of the Federal Customs Service, the project is expected to reduce time spent on customs formalities due to fuller information on cargo that allows to identify goods.
