During January 2020, Russian Railways loaded 102 mn tons of cargo, down 4.9% year-on-year and down 20.2% month-on-month. Almost all commodities were down.
Coal loading declined by 10.8% year-on-year down to 29.3 mn tons. Oil and products, Russian Railways’ second most important cargo in terms of volume, decreased by 3.9% down to 19.9 mn tons.
Ferrous metals were down 2.2% to 6.4 mn tons, timber and logs down 14.1% to 3.1 mn tons, soda and chemicals down 2.4% to 2.2 mn tons. Grain loading dropped by 21.7% down to 1.6 mn tons.
Non-ferrous ore and raw sulphur declined by 2.1% down to 1.5 mn tons, coke by 11.1% down to 0.876 mn tons, chemical and mineral fertilizers by 2.3% down to 5.2 mn tons, non-ferrous ore and raw sulphur by 2.1% down to 1.5 mn tons.

Rail cargo throughput in January 2020 made 209.2 bn ton/km, up down 5.1% year-on-year.
