Foreign Trade via Baltic Customs in 2019

  • Foreign trade turnover via the Baltic Customs made $30.99 bn during in 2019, down 11.2% year-on-year.

    The number of cargo declarations issued made 337 thousand, down 2% year-on-year, including 304.1 thousand of import declarations (-2.8%) and 32.9 thousand of export declarations (+6.6%).

    In terms of tonnage, over 16.8 mn tons of cargo was declared via the Baltic Customs, up 9.1% year-on-year. Import traffic increased by 2.7% up to some 10.8 mn tons, and export by 21.5% up to 6.1 mn tons.

    A significant share in the import volume is fruit accounting for 24.2%. Other top import commodities are polymer materials, ferrous metals, organic chemicals, and equipment.

    The top export commodities are timber and woodwork (32.7%), ferrous metals, ores, stag and ash, salt, sulphur, stone, paper and board.

    The major countries of origin for import cargo in the Baltic Customs region in 2019 were China, Ecuador, Germany, South Korea and India.

    The top countries of destination for export via the Baltic Customs were China (its share made 21.8%), Turkey and Sweden.
