The past week was quite silent due to major industry events and heavily affected by NE winds with usual decrease of water level in the Azov-Don Channel. Many vessels are stuck at Rostov and the recent forecast is only worsening the situation.
Starting from Wednesday evening strong winds will again impede safe navigation at Rostov/Azov ports. These delays at loading ports could create lack of available tonnage and in 2-3 weeks period a formation for open tonnage in the Sea of Azov.
Freight rates for time being are slightly correcting but the weather factor could play more significant role during the coming week.
According to Rufco shipbrokers, freight rates to the Sea of Marmara make $20-21 pmt from Rostov and 19.5-20.5 pmt from Yeisk.
Freight rates to SE Black Sea ports are $18-19 pmt from Rostov and 17.5-18.5 pmt from Yeisk.
The Black Sea segment also remains depressed due to decreased trade activity there.
The recent petrol riots in Iran caused massive internet/communication problems. In these circumstances, market players have to revive such old school and almost forgotten ways of business communication like fax messages. Despite all this, freight rates in the Caspian are still on the rise.
Freight ex Astrakhan to Iran make $40-42 pmt this week.
