Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 41, 2019

  • Freight in the Sea of Azov continues to rise, but the pace remains slow. Meanwhile, it is interesting to note that transshipment via Kavkaz roads has dropped 21% in comparison with 2018. On the other hand, overall coal export via Russian ports increased in 2019 by some 6%.

Political issues over Turkey’s possible participation in Syria could affect Turkish Lira rate of exchange and, consequently, the agri market next week.

According to Rufco shipbrokers, freight rates to the Sea of Marmara make $22-22.5 pmt from Rostov and 21.5-22 pmt from Yeisk.

Freight rates to SE Black Sea ports are $20-20.5 pmt from Rostov and 19.5-20 pmt from Yeisk.

Black sea minibulkers / coasters are gaining new levels. The sector has been keeping away from decline for 3 weeks already by now. This gives prudent optimism for this segment.

The Caspian region is still vivid and the demand for vessels from Volga ports, Aktau and Astrakhan is only increasing. Rates are following the demand growing by 2-3 dollars during the past week.

Freight ex Astrakhan to Iran make $29-31 pmt this week.
