Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 22, 2019

  • In the Sea of Azov market, the market is pacified before religious holidays. Activity is mainly concentrated on June shipments, which are already quoted with a surcharge above the current market level.

According to Rufco shipbrokers, the gap in desired freight levels between charterers and owners is quite substantial, but this is a normal trend before the start of the new harvest season.

Freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $17-18 per ton.

Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $15-16 per ton.

The Black Sea coasters market is without any changes, the rates are the same low and there are too many spot vessels quoted around.

The Black Sea coasters segment is continuing the dive. The main reason for such a fall is the absence of agri cargoes and low buying interest amongst Turkish importers.

In the Caspian, religious holidays are coming soon and it indeed affects the overall activity in the region. As a result, freights have declined here again. Mid-Volga is also not so vivid and spot tonnage can be traced in Don and Volga river ports.

The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran make $24-26 per ton.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration.
