The rail ferry “Ambal” has returned to the Ust-Luga – Baltiysk service after completing drydocking at the Kanonersky Shipyard in St. Petersburg.
According to Oboronlogistika, owner and operator of the vessel, the ferry is currently preparing for loading at Ust-Luga and will continue operations carrying commercial and military cargo.
The ferry is equipped to carry Russian standard (1520 gauge) trains on three rail decks as well as ro-ro cargo such as 20’ and 40’ roll-trailers.
The vessel can accommodate 112 railcars. The average shipment weight is about 8,000 tons. The ferry makes 6-7 round trips between Ust-Luga and Baltiysk monthly with an average transit time between the two ports making 38 hours.
