During Q1 2019, the sea ports of Ukraine handled 223.5 thousand TEU, up 14.2% year-on-year.
By way of comparison, Russia’s largest Black Sea port of Novorossiysk during the same period handled some 207.3 thousand TEU, down 7.5 year-on-year.
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, export container traffic via the Ukrainian sea ports made 106.2 thousand TEU, up 16.2% year-on-year. Import was up slightlu by 0.5% to 98.3 thousand TEU.
Transit surged by 48.8% up to 9.7 thousand TEU. Cabotage made 9.3 thousand TEU, last year in January-March there was no cabotage traffic in the Ukraine.
The only demonstrating a positive container trend was Yuzhny, which was up 3-fold up to over 52 thousand TEU.
Container traffic via the rest of the major Ukrainian ports declined.
Odessa handled 140.7 thousand TEU during Q1 2019, down 4.1% year-on-year.
Chernomorsk (formerly known as Ilyichevsk) handled 30.8 thousand TEU, down 2.7% year-on-year.
Olvia Specialized Sea Port (formerly, Oktyabrsk) handled just 30TEU, down 88.7% year-on-year.
