RF Government Approves Kamchatka LNG Project

  • The RF Government approved the investment project aimed at building an LNG terminal on the Kamchatka Peninsula by governmental order No 436-r of March 2019. The project will be realized by Novatek.

The terminal will be used for receiving liquefied natural gas shipped from Sabetta by Arc LNG tankers and loaded on board conventional LNG carriers for delivery to customers in the Asia Pacific Region.

The location for the terminal was chosen in the Bechevinskaya Bay in Kamchatka. The terminal will consist of two floating LNG storage facilities, an access fairway in the Bechevinskaya Bay, a port fleet berth and navigation safety systems to be developed in 2020-2023.

The terminal, when put into operation, is expected to help increase cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route from 9.7 mn tons to 31.4 mn tons by the end of 2026, attract some 70 bn rubles of investment, and make navigation along the Northern Sea Route year-round.

The project will require construction of 10 new Arc7 LNG tankers.
