Russian Transport System in January

  • During the first month of 2019, cargo volume carried by all transport modes in the RF transport system increased by 4.3% year-on-year to make 517.3 mn tons.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, road transport accounts for the largest share in the entire volume with 353.2 mn tons, up 6.1% year-on-year. However, compared to December 2018, road cargo traffic in January dropped by 27.8%.

    Rail cargo volume increased 1.5% year-on-year up to 105.5 mn tons (-3.3% month-on-month).

    Pipeline traffic was up 1.7% year-on-year to 108.8 mn tons (-0.5% month-on-month).

    Air freight was on the same level with last years’ January result at 0.08 mn tons, compared to December 2018 it declined 20%.

    Maritime transport volume grew 6.7% year-on-year up to 1.6 mn tons and plummeted 30.4% month-on-month.

    Inland shipping volume declined both year-on-year (-4.8%) and month-on-month (-16.7%) down to 2 mn tons.
