Ice Restrictions Put Off Again

  • In the port of Primorsk, due to slower ice formation and milder weather forecast, the introduction of additional restrictions for vessels is put off until March 12 instead of March 1.

Since this date, the following restrictions enter into force:

    • Vessels with no ice class and barges pulled by tugs are not allowed to sail in the ice conditions.
    • Vessels with Ice1 ice class are allowed to navigate only escorted by icebreakers.
    • Vessels with the Ice2 and higher ice class and above are allowed to navigate with or without icebreaking support, on recommendation and advice of the icebreaker.

In the port of Ust-Luga, additional restrictions that were to have come into force w.e.f. March 1, have also been put off until March 12, for the same reason.

Since this date, provided the ice reached 10-15 cm thick, the following restrictions enter into force:

    • Barges pulled by tugs are not allowed to sail in the ice conditions.
    • Vessels with no ice class are allowed to navigate only escorted by icebreakers.
    • Vessels with the Ice1 and higher ice class and above are allowed to navigate with or without icebreaking support.
