This week the freight market of the Azov region is still showing a downward trend. Despite the decreasing prices for Russian origin wheat in the home market, the stocks of old crop are gradulally coming to an end and not so many orders are available in the market. This makes vessels «hungry» for cargoes and pushes freight rates down.
In the near future, producers will have to sell all the stocks in order to clear storage facilities prior to the start of the new season and to get funds for the sowing campaign, Rufco shipbrokers predict. But the warm weather in the Sea of Azov could speed up the cancelation of ice restrictions and allow all tonnage to enter the shallow draft ports. Now it is not clear how these two factors will compensate each other.
Freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $18-19 per ton.
Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $17-18 per ton.
The Сaspian market is comparatively stable showing slight reduction in freight levels as well.
The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran remain at $35-36 per ton.
