Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 5, 2019

  • In the Sea of Azov, the situation is getting even worse in comparison with last week. High commodity prices and smaller stock quantity in Russia are almost killing wheat trade and subsequently Azov Sea freights. Sea-river tonnage of all types and sizes has been proposed in spot or almost spot positions.

According to Rufco shipbrokers, Yeisk cargoes showed with 1-2 dollars discount from Rostov parcels. The situation here is as bad as on the Handy / Supramax market, but for different reasons.

Freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $22-23 per ton.

Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $21-22 per ton.

In the Caspian, the conditions are not so bad as in the Sea of Azov and owners here deem themselves lucky to have chosen the Caspian option before the winter. Freight rates have almost stabilized here and presently are keeping sideward pace.

The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran remain at $37-38 per ton.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration
