MSCo to Carry Arctic Coal

  • Murmansk Shipping Company signed a 5-year contract wit Sibanthracite Overseas AG, a subsidiary of the major coal holding company Vostokugol.

Under the contract signed on October 26, MSCo is to carry 20,000 to 100,000 ton coal shipments of high-quality anthracite extracted on the Taimyr Peninsula from the port of Dixon to Europe.

The project is scheduled to start in 2019.

By 2020, it is planned to increase the annual transportation volume up to 20 mn tons, taking into account the forecasted coal field reserves.

MSCo intends to deploy most of its fleet in carrying coal from Taimyr.
