Azov and Caspian Freight Market, Week 41, 2018

  • There were no significant changes in freight rates during past week in the Sea of Azov.

    Charterers are entering market with USD 33 pmt for wheat to Marmara destinations, but actual fixture figures are bit higher.

    According to Rufco shipbrokers, the recent Rosselkhoznadzor issues have resulted in a rise in wheat prices for about USD 3 pmt.

    Delays in phytosanitary certificates issue are still 3 working days.

    As per the latest assumptions, the harvest this year would make 106 mn tons, which is about 29 mn tons less than last year.

    Grain export volume is expected to be 35-37 mn tons compared to 52.422 mn tons a year before.

    Freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $34-35 per ton.

    Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $32-33 per ton.

    In the Caspian region, the lack of tonnage and increasing trading activity have finally caused a long-awaited freight increase.

    Grain is quite active here and is quoted well from river ports as well as from Aktau and Astrakhan.

    The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran remain at $34-36 per ton.
