Azov and Caspian Freight Market, week 31, 2018

  • The absence of Turkish buyers on the market has caused freight correction for shipments ex Azov Sea river ports.

And, due to the coming prolonged religious holidays in Turkey by the end of August and the recent trading situation, August most probably will be quite dull in respect of chartering activity, according to Rufco shipbrokers.

September on the other hand might significantly revive the market.

Apart from Azov Sea ports, Novorossiysk showed all-time high historical record for handling agri cargoes in July 2018. Main destinations handled here are Egypt, West Africa, Middle and Far East.

Freight rates to the Sea of Marmara from Rostov make $26-27 per ton.

Freight rates from Rostov to SE Black Sea ports are $24-25 per ton.

The rather small trading activity in Caspian Sea might halt due to the recent fall of the Iranian national currency. It will have a substantial impact on grain trade in the region indeed. The rates here continue to decline slowly.

The current freight rates from Astrakhan to Iran make $25-27 per ton.

Please note that the rates cited in this article are average market rates. We ask our readers to pay attention that this information is not a commercial offer and cannot be an example for comparison in commercial disputes and arbitration proceedings.
