In 2017, Volga Shipping Co carried 6.5 mn tons of cargo, 24% above the result achieved in 2016.
The cargo structure changed little. Export continued to dominate with a share of 61% of the total, or 4 mn tons, up 13% year-on-year.
2.2 mn tons in this volume were export designated grains, 42% more than in 2016 and a record breaking result for the company for the past 25 years.
Export metals volume decreased 26% to 0.7 mn tons. Sulfur transportation made 1 mn tons. Same as in 2016.
Domestic cargo accounted for 39%, or 2.5 mn tons, up 46% year-on-year. In 2016, the share of domestic cargo made 24%.
Most of this volume was granite grit from Karelia, which made 1.6 mn tons, up 42% year-on-year. Gravel shipments made 0.3 mn tons increasing three-fold year-on-year.
