Sea and Rail Cargo Up, Inland Shipping Down

  • In January-September 2017, cargo traffic by all modes of transportation in Russia amounted to 5,670.8 mn tons.

    This figure is 2.6% above the result for the same period of 2016.

    According to the RF Statistics Agency, the largest share in this amount is carried by road – 3,788.1 mn tons, up 1.8% year-on-year.

    Rail cargo grew 2.8% to make 941.1 mn tons, while the maritime shipping sector accounted for 18.8 mn tons, 16% more than during the 9 months of 2016.

    Inland shipping volumes were down 7.2% to 86.7 mn tons. Air cargo was up 8.3% year-on-year making 0.8 mn tons.

    Pipeline transportation volume increased 6.8% to 835.1 mn tons.
