Container Traffic via Far East Basin Ports in January Down 5.8%

    According to SeaNews PORTSTAT analytic online service, the total container throughput via the Far East basin ports in January 2021 decreased by 5.8% year-on-year. Export declined by 4.8%, cabotage by 7.8%, and transit was down 47.9%. Import remained much on the previous year’s level (+0.1%).

    The share of the Far East basin in the total container traffic via all the Russian seaports in January 2021 amounted to 32.8%.

    Laden container throughput in the Far East decreased by 4.8% year-on-year. Reefer containers accounted for 5.6% of the total laden container traffic, and dry containers for 94.4%. Imports made 50.7% of all the laden containers, cabotage 25%, exports 21.4% and transit 3%.

    Empty container traffic was down 8.2%.

    The port of Vladivostok accounted for 59.6% of the aggregate container throughput via the Russian Far East basin sea ports in January. Vostochny handled 23%, and Korsakov 7.1% of the total.
