Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company, part of Global Ports group, has put into operation two mobile dust suppression units manufactured by the Italian WLP. They are intended to reduce concentration of coal dust in the air at all stages of the operating cycle, in particular, during handling operations and storage of coal at the yard.
The operating range of the mobile dust suppression units is 70 m, the tank capacity is 8 cu. m, pressure – at least 15 bar. The dust suppression units are equipped with a power driven mechanical swing system with the end sensors and are programmable in terms of operating time and watering sector. The equipment is designed to operate in two modes: water fog spraying (at air temperatures above -4 degrees С) and snow spraying (at air temperatures of -4 to -30 degrees С).
In addition, to optimize coal piling operations at the coal yard, to support the handling process and cleaning the railway from coal remnants the terminal purchased 4 Liebherr loaders. It also purchased and launched a Liebherr bulldozer to pile coal at the VSC yard.
To minimize the negative impact upon the waters of the Vrangel Bay VSC completed construction of the 2nd phase of storm water treatment works. The system facilitates operations at berths Nos. 5, 6 and the adjacent territory. The quality of storm water after treatment meets the requirements applicable to the fishery water bodies.
The terminal is about to complete installation of a 16 meters high wind and dust screen along the perimeter of the coal yard. This will facilitate capturing of coal dust and minimize the environmental impact of the terminal’s operations.
According to SeaNews’ statistics, in 2017 VSC, primarily a container operator, handled 1.6 mn tons of coal, up 31.6% year-on-year.
