ASPO Starts Building Floating Dock

  • A ceremony to mark the start of the construction of the bottom section for a 25,000-ton capacity transfer floating dock was held at Astrakhan-based ASPO Shipyard, United Shipbuilding Corporation said in a statement.

The contract for building the transfer dock was concluded between Southern Shipbuilding and Shiprepair Center, part of Russia’s United Shipbuilding Corporation, and St. Petersburg-based Severnaya Verf Shipyard. The technical design was developed by Almaz Marine Engineering Bureau, also part of USC.

The floating transfer dock is aimed for launching and lifting from water vessels and other maritime structures up to 250х48 meters large and up to 25,000 tons heavy in order to survey, repair and paint them.

When completed, the new floating dock will allow Severnaya Verf to expand its possibilities to build vessels and ships.
