The Government of Finland has decided to continue the restrictions on the border with Russia, the Finnish Customs Service Tulli reports. Ater opening the bhe border crossing points of Vaalimaa and Niirala at midnight on Decemer 14, they were closed again at 8 p.m. Finnish tie (9 p.m. Moscow time) on December 15.
The reason cited is that “the instrumented entry (i.e., “irregular migration”, which “still poses a serious threat to national security”) has continued”
The border crossing points of Imatra, Kuusamo, Nuijamaa, Raja-Jooseppi, Salla and Vartius also remain closed. Freight train traffic via Vainikkala will continue.
The decision was made on 14 December 2023, it will remain in force until the end of Sunday, 14 January 2024, Tulli said.
