Russia’s federal port property management agency Rosmorport has put into operation a new shore-based Automatic Identification System station in a settlement of Lavrentiya in Chukotka Autonomous Region, Rosmorport has reported.
The new AIS station includes a base station with an integrated GPS receiver and VHF transceiver antennas. The AIS station with a radius of 32 nautical miles will be used to monitor navigation in the Bering Strait.
The technical documentation for the project was developed by the Far Eastern basin branch of Rosmorport. The equipment used is of Russian make and complies with all the requirements for shore-based AIS stations.
The new shore-based station is the easternmost component of Russia’s navigation safety system.
