Russia’s Research Vessel “Ivan Petrov” Sets off on New Mission

  • The research vessel “Ivan Petrov” has set off for an expedition in the Arctic. The ship departed from Arkhangelsk on June 6 with a research team including seismic geophysicists, sampling equipment technicians. geologists, stratigraphers, and lithologists.

    The mission of the expedition is to conduct geological survey of the Barents Sea shelf in the borderline zone of Russia and Norway.

    The programme of the expedition include seismoacoustic studies and bottom sampling. The results will be used to make up a set of geologic maps of the Barents Sea shelf plate.

    The expedition will last for 25 days.
