St. Petersburg-based Baltic Shipyard has signed a contract to build a multifunctional nuclear service vessel, United Shipbuilding Corporation has reported.
The vessel is designed to recharge nuclear power units of nuclear icebreakers and the “Akademik Lomonosov” floating power station and, in future, of modernized floating power units.
The construction will be financed partly from the budget of the Russian Federation (50%) and partly by Rosatom State Corporation (50%).
The vessel is to be built under the Northern Sea Route development plan till 2035, with deliver planned for 2029. The 22770 Design vessel will be used to unload used nuclear fuel from vessel reactors, loading fresh nuclear fuel into vessel reactors, accepting, storing and disposing of liquid nuclear waste, decontaminating removable shipboard reactor equipment, etc.
