Government to Subsidize Rail Transportation of Agriproducts

  • The Government of the Russian Federation is to assign an additional 2 bln rubles ($24.4 mln) to support transporting agri products by railway for privileged tariffs. An order to this effect was signed by RF Premier Mikhail Mishustin.

    The federal subsidy will allow agricultural producers to cut their logistics expenses and increase shipments of grains, oilseeds, vegetables, fish and mineral fertilizers to different regions of Russia

    ‘This decision will allow of delivering no less than a million tons of cargo and will help agricultural producers receive everything they need for their business, while people in every Russian area will have a wide variety of quality products to choose from,’ Mishustin said in a meeting with vice premiers on May 2.

    The Government started subsidizing railway transportation of agricultural products in 2019. The mechanism envisages compensating the losses incurred by carriers due to privileged tariffs for such goods.

    The privileged tariffs for agricultural products apply to both containerized and non-containerized transportation modes. in February 2023, the RF Government already assigned 2 bln rubles for subsidizing the transportation of such products.
